Dog walker in Amsterdam, free

Long work days, busy weeks, tired legs. Find a Amsterdam neighbour who'd love to walk your dog, for free.

Why a neighbour makes a great dog walker

Guauly walkers are dog lovers who don't own a dog, and walking yours is the highlight of their week. They walk for the company, so you can build a relaxed rhythm that suits you both. Walks with community neighbours are free; pro sitters on Guauly charge per night, not per walk.

Walking a dog in Amsterdam: lead rules, off-leash areas and parks

In Amsterdam your dog stays on the lead in the street, in parks and on small patches of green, unless a sign says otherwise. Dogs may only run free on fields with a losloopgebied (off-leash area) sign. Each borough decides which fields those are, and the city's dog map shows in colour where dogs can run free, where they're banned, and where a rule only applies part of the year. Playgrounds, sports parks, school yards and swimming pools are always off-limits.

The bird breeding season runs from 15 March to 1 October, and during it dogs can't run free in some places that are open the rest of the year. In the Amsterdamse Bos there's a lead rule around the main entrance and the dog policy is under review, so check the signs there. You pick up after your dog everywhere, off-leash fields included.

The Amsterdamse Bos, the Vondelpark and the Westerpark are the well-known walks, but most neighbourhoods have a field within walking distance, and Zuidoost recently gained twelve new off-leash areas. A walker from your own neighbourhood knows which field is closest and when it's quiet. On Guauly, walks are done by community neighbours for free; pro sitters charge per night, not per walk.

Once you click, set up regular walks. Weekly, fortnightly, whenever works. You stay in control of the schedule.

Questions owners ask

How often can a Guauly walker walk my dog in Amsterdam?▾

It's up to both of you. Some owners and walkers set up a weekly rhythm (e.g. every Tuesday afternoon), others do it more flexibly. Since no one is being paid, there's no pressure for either side to over-commit.

Can I ask for a specific walker in my Amsterdam neighbourhood?▾

Yes. Browse by area or distance, read profiles, and reach out to anyone you think would be a good fit. You always pick the walker — Guauly never assigns.

What if my dog and the walker don't get along?▾

This is why we always recommend a pre-meeting walk — 20 minutes together before committing. If it doesn't click, no pressure, you try with someone else. The community culture is about fit, not pressure.
